Starting in January 2011, the Theil Foundation, over the next two years, will award 20 young innovators under the age of 20 with grants up to $100,000 to further their innovative scientific and technical ideas. In addition to funding, the Foundation’s network of tech entrepreneurs and philanthropists (veterans of organizations such as Facebook and PayPal) will help mentor the fellows in helping them bring their disruptive technologies to life.
"Our world needs more breakthrough technologies,” said Peter Thiel, founder of the Theil Foundation. "From Facebook to SpaceX to Halcyon Molecular, some of the world's most transformational technologies were created by people who stopped out of school because they had ideas that couldn't wait until graduation.”
Theil, co-founder of PayPal and the first outside investor in Facebook, is a technology entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist who has been involved in a number of game-changing companies.
Young innovators who want to apply for the fellowships must be under 20 years of age as of December 15, 2010 and deadline to apply is December 31, 2010.
