2010 Translational Medicine Alliance Forum Set for October 13-14

July 22, 2010

Dates for the 2010 Translational Medicine Alliance Forum have been announced.  The third annual forum, hosted by the TransMed Partnership, will convene October 13-14 in Washington, DC.  The purpose of the forum is to bring together leaders from academia, government, the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries and venture capitalists to accelerate the progress of translational medicine.

Translational medicine is an emerging view of medical practice and interventional epidemiology that goes beyond current practices of evidence-based medicine to integrate research from basic sciences, social sciences and political sciences in optimizing both patient care and preventative healthcare.  In 2008 OSU established the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) through the support of a $34 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  This was one of the largest NIH grants ever awarded.  The CCTS coordinates the research efforts of 16 different colleges as well as clinicians and practitioners at OSU Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  Translational medicine and personalized healthcare are considered the most promising new approaches to modern healthcare and researchers in Central Ohio are at the forefront of these movements.

The 2010 Translational Medicine Alliance Forum will focus among other topics on regulatory science, best practices in translational medicine, and pediatric medicine.  Attendees will have the opportunity to network and learn about breakthrough approaches to this emerging new approach to medicine and patient care.
