Dublin’s Cardinal Health, a national leader in the field of Positron Emission Tomography (PET), has announced the acquisition of Biotech and its four nuclear pharmacies. These pharmacies join Cardinal’s existing network of nearly 160 nuclear pharmacies and the 26 cyclotron-based PET radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facilities which the company operates nationwide. Cardinal Health recently opened its network to support clinical trials of new and novel PET agents.
“The Biotech acquisition helps demonstrate Cardinal Health’s commitment to advancing the future of molecular imaging, accelerates the build-out of our PET business and augments our leading network of nuclear pharmacies,” says John Rademacher, president and general manager of Nuclear and Specialty Pharmacy Services. Rademacher says that the addition of the Biotech facilities, along with the intellectual property of the company’s highly skilled employees, will facilitate Cardinal’s expanding role in supporting new drug development.
In a related story, the Cardinal Health board of directors named George Barrett chairman and CEO of the company upon completion of the planned spinoff of CareFusion Corporation at the end of August. Barrett has been vice chairman and CEO of Cardinal’s Healthcare Supply Chain Services business since joining the company in January 2008.
