AEP has agreed to purchase all of the output of a solar power plant soon to be built in Ohio’s Wyandot County. Wyandot Solar LLC has plans for a 10.08-megawatt solar energy facility to open mid-summer 2010. AEP has signed a 20-year agreement to purchase all of plant’s output and renewable energy credits.
Although AEP has been actively growing its renewable energy portfolio, this is its first move involving the commercial use of solar energy. AEP’s renewable energy portfolio currently includes 1473 megawatts of wind energy. The company’s goal is to add 2,000 megawatts of renewable energy to its portfolio by the end of 2011.
