What Pillar means by Delivery Lead is someone who can basically leap tall buildings in a single bound. So far, we only have two or three of these folks. But read on; you might just have the super-powers. Here is what we need:
-- A business-value orientation. A reflex to ship small, bulletproof increments to start earning ROI ASAP.
-- Deep, broad experience with agile software development, from the technical (programmer and tester) perspective, from the product owner perspective, and from the CIO's perspective. You must stay abreast of the latest contributions from critical agile thoughtleaders. Ideally, you are one of those thoughtleaders.
-- The ability to find creative ways to motivate teams (and hold them accountable) to both delight the customer (meed budget, deadline, and scope targets)
-- Detail-oriented financial skills. The ability to meet Pillar gross-margin and net-margin targets. Yes, you must love spreadsheets as much as you love people and code.
-- The ability to simultaneously hold your subordinates accountable for guiding clients through agile transformation, opportunistically and pragmatically, one practice and pattern and principle at a time.
Yes, you must be a meta-coach, meta-mentor, meta-trainer. Your scope of management responsibility and accountability might be a couple of teams at a client site, or multiple multi-team client engagements, or an entire region. It all depends on your chops.
