Barbara Kunz, Battelle’s President of the Health and Life Sciences Global Business, has been selected to chair The Ohio State University’s Medical Center Board. Kunz replaces outgoing Board Chair Jeff Wadsworth, who is Battelle’s President and CEO, as Wadsworth assumes full duties as an Ohio State University Trustee, a position to which he was elected in June, 2010. The Medical Center board enhances strategic alignment between the Medical Center’s five individual hospital boards and reports to The Ohio State University Board of Trustees through its medical affairs committee. The five individual hospital boards, which include the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital, University Hospital, University Hospital East and OSU Harding Hospital, report to the Medical Center board and continue to be dedicated to the unique mission of each program they serve. Kunz heads up Battelle’s Health and Life Sciences business, which delivers a comprehensive set of R&D services to solve complex challenges for government health agencies and medical device, biotechnology and pharmaceutical firms. Including its national laboratories, Battelle’s health and life sciences research impacts some of the most critical problems in human health through significant advances in medical devices, pharmaceuticals, public health and next-generation diagnostics and therapeutics. She is an outgoing trustee of OSU’s James Cancer Hospital, is on the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Research Institute Board and is Chair of the Board of BioOhio, the bioscience industry development organization for Ohio. She also is the Representative Director for International Scientific Standards, a Korean company, and serves as a Director of Levitronix and POCARED Diagnostics. Kunz has a B.S. in Chemistry and in Biology from Thiel College, an M.S. in Polymer Science from the University of Akron and qualified in the International Executive Program, INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.
