Battelle Receives Award for Innovative Technology Refreshment Program

February 20, 2009

Battelle recently received the 2008 Army Aviation Material Readiness Award for Contribution by a Major Contractor. The award is for an innovative technology refreshment program in connection with the UH60 Black Hawk helicopter. The program involved developing modernized electronic replacement parts, with the same form, fit and function as the aging and increasingly unreliable legacy parts. Battelle and its industry partner, Tyonek Fabrication Company, use current electronics technologies to update aging components which in turn improves fleet revenue costs. The program is expected to save the Army hundreds of millions of dollars and put more reliable equipment in the hands of the Army. The program is now expanding to improve the readiness of several other legacy systems.

In a related story, Battelle was awarded $16.5 million in defense contracts this week.   The contracts cover two projects including $8.76 million to evaluate the effectiveness of the Cost Guard’s response to chemical, biological and nuclear attacks. A second contract for $7.72 million has been awarded to study the destruction of chemical and biological agent payloads.
