Bluemile Inc. Announces Plans to Move Headquarters to New Albany

October 29, 2010

New Albany’s village council this week approved an incentive package that paves the way for Bluemile, Inc to relocate its corporate headquarters to the New Albany business park.

Bluemile, which built the fiber optic network in New Albany’s business park, provides voice, colocation and data technology services. The council voted to use money already allocated for maintenance of the village’s fiber network to build lateral lines from the network to local businesses. Bluemile requested this type of agreement in lieu of other incentives in order to expand the network’s reach and provide essential services for local businesses. In the past, monies not used for maintenance of the network reverted back to the village’s general fund.

According to Jennifer Chrysler, business development director for the village, the incentive is to put money back into the fiber network. “It’s a reinvestment to get more companies signed up,” says Chrysler.

Rather than a rebate, the plan is for the village to put money into the fiber fund for seven years based on the size of Bluemile’s payroll: $25,000 annually when payroll is $2.5 million to $5 million, $35,000 for $5 million to $10 million and $50,000 when it exceeds $10 million.

The move has not been finalized, as state approval of a job-creation tax credit and a Rapid Outreach Grant – used by Ohio to help companies and communities create or retain jobs – is still pending, but those awards are expected to be announced within the near future.
