As the region celebrates CallCopy CEO Ray Bohac’s designation as Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year for the South Central Ohio and Kentucky region, several other major publications and organizations have announced opportunities for recognizing the achievements of the area’s innovators.
Both Popular Science and BusinessWeek are currently calling for nominations to find the “Best of What’s New” and “America’s Best Young Entrepreneurs” respectively.
Popular Science is planning for its 23rd Annual Best of What’s New awards which will be featured in its December issue. The awards honor the 100 most outstanding new products and technologies in categories including automotive, gadgets, computing, green tech, health, home tech and home entertainment. To be eligible, the product must have made its debut between October 1, 2009 and September 30, 2010. Deadline for entry is August 30, 2010. Editors say they are looking for products that are visionary in their innovation and execution and ideas that are revolutionary, not evolutionary.
BusinessWeek is currently seeking nominations for America’s Best Young Entrepreneurs. For the last five years, the magazine has profiled 25 companies run by men and women no more than 25 years old. By definition the companies profiled are very young in which all of the co-founders are born after July 26, 1984. Whereas there have been a few standouts in the past, i.e. Facebook, most of the awardees have been little known before their exposure in BusinessWeek. Companies must submit their applications by July 26, 2010 and must be prepared to disclose 2009 revenue and projections for 2010.
