Central Ohio Ranked as Fourth Fastest Growing Metro in the US for Technology Job Openings

February 10, 2011

A recent survey of technology job openings shows that nationwide there are approximately 75,000 available tech and IT jobs.  Of these, many openings are concentrated in Midwest states and cities that have experienced particularly tough times during the recent economic downturn.  Leading the list of available tech job postings is Detroit with more than 800 available positions on any given day.   Ohio made a strong showing as well with Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus in second, third and fourth positions respectively in terms of year-over-year growth of available technology job openings. Columbus experienced a 57 percent growth in available tech jobs from 2010 to 2011.

“The fact that Midwestern cities lead the list of this month’s tech job growth areas reflects a resurgent economy that is lifting the region’s traditional manufacturing base. To be competitive in world markets, manufacturers need information technology solutions, both for production control systems as well as extended ERP for supply chains and distribution.  There are also opportunities with financial services companies and retailers in the region,” says Tom Silver, senior vice president of Dice.com
