Central Ohio Startup Launches Disruptive Materials Process Technology

October 20, 2011

Fabrisonic, LLC, a joint venture between Columbus’ EWI and Michigan-based Solidica, Inc., announced this week the unveiling of its new line of Ultrasonic Additive Manufacturing (UAM) technology and equipment.  UAM is a disruptive technology that provides manufacturers a new way to create metal parts. Unlike current additive manufacturing processes, UAM uses sound waves to weld materials together.  The key differentiator is Fabrisonic’s disruptive capability to weld layers of both similar and dissimilar metals together.   It is considered a breakthrough technology because it produces bonding of metals without melting, which opens up a new world of products in metal matrix composites and embedded sensors/actuators.

"We are very excited to introduce UAM technology and equipment for both applied R&D and full-scale production environments, said Mark Norfolk, president of Fabrisonic.  “ The possibilities for industry and government applications are vast."

Fabrisonic is the recipient of a TechGenesis award from TechColumbus, receiving up to $50,000 and business coaching services to advance the company’s rollout of this new technology and equipment.
