CleveX Hires New CEO – Looks to Expand Application beyond Dermatology

September 10, 2009

Though launch of its product, the ExiClip handheld biopsy tool, has been delayed, the new CEO at CleveX says that may not necessarily have been a bad thing.  Sam Finkelstein was recently named CEO of CleveX, the Cleveland Clinic spin off that is headquartered in the TechColumbus incubator.

In an interview with Med City News Finkelstein says CleveX was smart in what it did.  He says there were additional features that were added to the product and a process for teaching the technique for using the ExiClip was developed and taught to clinicians.  In addition, the company expanded its marketing focus from solely targeting dermatologists.  Now according to Finkelstein, CleveX can help expand skin biopsies to general practitioners and OB/GYNs, especially in rural markets where access to specialists is often limited.
“We want to establish ourselves as a new solution to an old problem, which is basically to be able to expand this procedure to everyone in the U.S. population — particularly in under-served rural markets, where a dermatologist may not be available easily,” says Finkelstein.
