The Columbus Division of Fleet Management has been honored by the 100 Best Green Fleets program as the No. 1 fleet operation in North America out of more than 38,000 fleets on the continent. This is an improvement over 2010 when Columbus was recognized as the 7th greenest fleet in North America.
“I am extremely proud of everyone at the Division of Fleet Management for making this the greenest fleet in North America,” said Mayor Michael B. Coleman. “Our commitment remains strong to do our part to reduce our carbon footprint and pioneer alternative fuels such as Compressed Natural Gas, leaving our community cleaner for our children and grandchildren. I congratulate Director Paul Rakosky and Fleet Management Administrator Kelly Reagan for this tremendous achievement.”
Fleet Management’s Green Fleet ranking was based on eighteen criteria used to measure the performance of a public fleet’s focus to reduce greenhouse gasses, educate the public and drive policy change to clean the environment. The City of Columbus has dedicated resources to building the largest CNG fueling center in the Midwest, which will be available to the general public and pumping fuel by December 2011. This is the third year in a row Columbus has been placed among the greenest fleets in the nation.
Green Fleets, sponsored by Bobit Publishing, Government Fleet plays a leading role in promoting, encouraging, and enhancing the public sector’s work performance and helps identify outstanding operations as models throughout industry. Green Fleets is a nationally recognized industry benchmark recognition program in the public sector.
