You can’t launch or grow a business without customers, and in a bootstrapped business, even one customer can make the difference between success and failure. So this month’s peer meeting topic will focus on the bootstrapping discipline of Customer Service. Our Member peer groups will be discussing concepts like measuring customer satisfaction, recovering from blunders or disasters, knowing when to “fire” a customer, and how to get customers to stop asking to talk to you, the owner.
Here are just a few examples of the Customer Service challenges our Members will be discussing with each other…
“A competitor recently started offering 100% money back guarantees. Should I match that?”
“It seems to me that if we have a dedicated customer service person, we are accepting that we have problems—shouldn’t we fix just any problems so we don’t have to have a person deal with them?”
“With email, customers can send in a question or problem anytime 24 hours a day. Do they expect an answer right away or can we wait until the next business day?”
“Customers buy from us because we are smaller and less expensive, but then they expect the same things they’d get from our bigger, pricier competitors and complain when they don’t get it.”
“I want to measure our customer satisfaction but don’t know where to start.”
“We totally botched things for our biggest customer. How can we recover and make them happy again?”
“One of my staff accidentally shipped twice as much product to a client than they had paid for. The client didn’t say anything and kept the product. Should I bring it up?”
