Columbus Museum of Art Attracts Largest Crowd Ever

May 11, 2011

The Columbus Museum of Art (CMA) opened the Center for Creativity on Jan. 1, 2011 and they are excited about the way the community is now interacting with the museum.

At the opening, they CMA had their largest crowd ever. They planned for 5,000 community members, and approximately 10,000 people attended.

“It was as incredible day and attendance has been growing steadily each day since,"  said Executive Director Nannette V. Maciejunes. “The energy of the Center for Creativity has energized the museum making it more interactive, co-creative and collaborative than ever.”

The museum engaged the community with the well-received Melvin Match fundraising program in which Ann and Noel Melvin matched every dollar given by a first-time museum donor. This doubled donations to a tally of $500,000 in support of ongoing renovations and expansion.

“In these tough economic times, we are excited that we exceeded our goal of Melvin Match by $15,000,” said  Maciejunes. “We are very happy to receive so much support from the community and that we were able to collect all the money from the Melvin’s generous donation.”

“I want to thank everyone at TechColumbus for their support in helping us spread the word about the Melvin Match,” said Maciejunes.
