Columbus Ranked as Best City in Two Independent Studies

April 22, 2010

Central Ohio this week received recognition from two major surveys that annually rank “best cities.”
Forbes has once again ranked Columbus as one of the top 25 Best Cities for Business and Careers.  Columbus ranked 24th (up from 38th in 2009) out of 200 major metropolitan areas in terms of considerations such as quality of life, educational attainment, job and income growth and costs of doing business.  This year, the top 25 cities making the list are all located within mid-America, indicating what Forbes characterizes as a shift toward cities with lower business costs, more robust economic outlooks and a solid quality of life.
And in a related story, RelocateAmerica has named Columbus as one of the top 10 large cities for 2010 (a category that included major metros such as Chicago, Dallas and Boston).

For the last 13 years, RelocateAmerica, a Michigan-based organization, has compiled a list of 100 top places to live.  The list categorizing cities by various metrics including top ten large cities, top 10 cities for recreation, top 10 college cities, etc.  In addition to making the top 10 for large cities, Columbus was also included as a top 10 affordable city.

What makes the RelocateAmerica rankings unique is that residents nominate their cities for consideration in the rankings.  Nominations are followed by surveys and analysis of data on income, crime, employment and education statistics.
