Columbus2020 Taking Regional Role in JobsOhio Plan

August 19, 2011

Several regional development organizations around the state, including Columbus2020, will expand their missions under a new plan to privatize Ohio's economic development efforts.  Columbus2020 is one of six organizations in Ohio that is expected to receive $2 million per year over the next two years to assemble initial development deals and then funnel those to the new private nonprofit JobsOhio organization. Under an economic development contract with the state, JobsOhio will work with existing companies to expand, or those looking to relocate to Ohio, by providing incentives. It also will assist those companies to quickly prepare applications for incentives that need to be approved by the state.

Columbus2020 is a collaborative economic development effort led by the Columbus Partnership and including the Columbus Chamber, TechColumbus, OSU, Battelle and many other partners and investors in the region.  For more on this story, as well as other details unveiled during a JobsOhio press conference held earlier this week in Dayton, see the following stories from Business First
