Nationwide Children’s Hospital has been designated as one of 13 special translational research centers which are part of the clinical trials network for Cystic Fibrosis research. Translational research centers will lead the newest Phase I clinical trials and provide specific direction to the entire network of clinical trial sites, which currently includes 77 sites.
“As a translational research center for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Therapeutics Development Network, our patients will have access to some of the latest advances in cystic fibrosis treatment and our faculty will be some of the first to generate new research projects,” says Karen McCoy, MD, director of Nationwide Children’s Cystic Fibrosis Care Center, chief of Pulmonary Medicine at Nationwide Children’s and a faculty member of OSU’s College of Medicine.
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease which significantly shortens the lifespan of those afflicted with it. The clinical trails network will facilitate safe, rapid and coordinated evaluation of new treatments.
“We congratulate Nationwide Children’s on joining a network of premier clinical trial facilities,” says Preston W. Campbell III, executive vice president of medial affairs for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. “These centers will help Cystic Fibrosis drugs move more swiftly from the research and testing stage into the hands of patients who need them.”
