DataCenter.BZ Completes 34,000 Square Foot Expansion of Central Ohio's Premier Data Center

September 21, 2011

Columbus, Ohio – September 21, 2011 – DataCenter.BZ, the region’s leading provider of colocation and related data center solutions, announced the completion of a 34,000-square foot expansion of the only purpose-built carrier-neutral data center in Central Ohio. Such expansion will allow DataCenter.BZ to increase its workforce by 40% this fall and was completed without tax incentives or any government assistance. “We are very proud to be able to increase municipal and corporate access to our quickly growing Ohio based business and to continue providing enterprise-grade solutions for customers’ mission-critical IT operations,” stated Paul Keinath, CFO and partner of DataCenter.BZ. “It is exciting to be a part of the economic development and growth of our community.” In collaboration with industry leaders in data center design and operation—including Emerson Network Power, Cisco, Schneider Electric/Square D and Russelectric—DataCenter.BZ’s expansion sought to further leverage its property’s unique power and carrier resources in a manner consistent with DataCenter.BZ’s longstanding commitment to maintaining fully redundant and independent power, cooling, network and security infrastructures. Consistent with the original facility, DataCenter.BZ’s expansion is also designed as a high availability data center, providing assurance that its location, design, construction and operation protect against unauthorized access, fire, floods, high winds, earthquakes and other hazards. Specialized features include 145-MPH wind ratings, 22-inch exterior concrete walls and a dual, independently layered roof system. As a 911-rated facility, DataCenter.BZ’s operations cannot be powered down and the facility has priority refueling for the multiple diesel generators backing up its diverse utility power grid feeds, to help ensure regional 911 services stay up in the event of a natural disaster. Highlights of DataCenter.BZ’s 34,000-square foot expansion include:

  • An additional 22,000 square feet of raised floor data center space
  • A 9,000-square foot lobby and mezzanine level hosting a training environment and providing for 150 additional seats for real-time workforce recovery
  • A second carrier cage with direct access to 15 Tier 1 and major network carriers, each with their own dual entry fiber feeds to the property and facility
  • 12 megawatts of incremental utility power delivered from diverse 138k-volt power grid feeds supported by five additional 2.5-megawatt generators
  • 2,400 more tons of cooling, utilizing EERs of 23+ for chillers and 75+ for air handlers as part of an overall LEED Silver facility design
  • Multiple 1-Gb/s and 10-Gb/s connections to diverse customer sites and alternate high-availability colocation centers in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Chicago, Pittsburgh and other regional and national locations
  • A new 24x7 network operations center

Leveraging high density power and cooling capacities, DataCenter.BZ is able to offer smaller footprint solutions, minimizing customers’ operating costs while maximizing facility economies of scale enjoyed by all customers. The facility is uniquely suited for ultra-high-density cabinet power deployments and overall provides for 500 watts per square foot of customer equipment power loads across 32,000 square feet of raised floor space. In commenting on key drivers behind the expansion, Kim Gerhart, Enterprise Solutions for DataCenter.BZ, noted that, “in recent years, the data center has essentially developed into a central office for the private, public and hybrid cloud communities, with some virtual machines deployed here utilizing massive amounts of storage capacity. While we have remained committed to providing carrier-neutral services to our strong telecommunications customer base, the demand for 24/7 network availability has made our high-density, high-availability data center extremely attractive to our enterprise and government customers, including those leveraging us for large-scale enterprise private clouds or Active/Active business continuity deployments.” Private tours of DataCenter.BZ’s facilities are available, to schedule one please contact tours@datacenter.bz.
