The DEC Presents-When to Jump: Real Life Advice on Becoming a Full-time Entrepreneur

Many entrepreneurs question when to leave a comfortable day job in order to devote full attention to a startup business.  Kevin Gadd and Michael Bowers will offer real life advice on becoming a full time entrepreneur.  Join us to learn about the many important aspects of this career decision, a significant component of which involves family. Take this opportunity to engage your spouse or significant other in the discussion.  Also enjoy lunch thanks to Buffalo Wild Wings while networking with other aspiring entrepreneurs.

Discussion points include:

  • Are my personal finances ready for the jump?
  • What about health benefits?
  • Is my new business opportunity far enough along?
  • What short and long term goals should I consider - family and business?
  •  Is my current career stable in this economy

PRESENTERS:

Kevin Gadd, Director of IT Commercialization, TechColumbus

Kevin regularly counsels entrepreneurs on “When to Jump” as well as other strategic business initiatives.  In a prior role, Kevin wrestled with the decision to become a full-time entrepreneur.  While an IT Manager at The Limited he made the decision to leave and join The Prometheus Group, which grew and was acquired after two years.  Kevin has also co-founded several other IT startups.

Michael Bowers, Regional Director of the Ohio Small Business Development Center

Michael has served as the Regional Director of the Ohio Small Business Development Center since 2002. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from The University of North Alabama, with majors in Economics and Finance and a Master’s degree from The Ohio State University in Public Administration. Given his extensive background in the investment space, he helps prepare entrepreneurs to seek and obtain equity financing. The SBDC provides business advising and consulting services at "No Charge" to the entrepreneur as part of their relationship with the Small Business Administration and the State of Ohio.

The event is free but registration is required.
