Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field OR combination of work experience and certifications in qualified fields (e.g. Help Desk and/or other technical background.)

Experience

One to three years’ related experience in Information Technology field in a medium to large enterprise environment. Experience should include end user support, desktop project leadership and associated technical tasks. Experience in administration of Microsoft Windows XP/7, including installation, configuration, securing, and scripting of Windows technologies.

Description

Responsible for architecture design, deployment, and maintenance of the Library's desktop infrastructure, including operating systems, desktop applications, and other information system related technologies as assigned. Oversees the configuration, release management and performance monitoring of all hardware and software used by the library staff and public customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engineers the desktop operating system designs for library staff and public customers. Provides consistent management and delivery of an integrated PC solution for all users of Library computers.
  • Proactively manages the desktop space at an enterprise level to ensure consistency, stability, and reliability. Uses enterprise system monitoring tools to develop reports on desktop configurations which are out of standard, and develops and executes corrective projects to ensure compliance.
  • Develops and documents ongoing standards for the desktop environment within a changing environment. Stays abreast of new desktop technology improvements and designs and manages standing desktop refresh cycles. Documents all business and technical exceptions for support staff.
  • Manages and maintains a base operating system image for the enterprise. Designs, configures, installs, tests and supports desktop applications, including patches and updates from vendors.Designs database of organizational desktop assets, and tracks software licensing to ensure compliance.
  • Serves as Tier Two support for desktop support issues, and Tier Three for key desktop library applications. Manages support staff technical training for desktop projects. Works with Library staff, other Information Technology teams, external support partners and external vendors to identify and resolve desktop support issues.
