Opportunity:
We are hiring a Director, Software Systems position in our Information Technology department. The Director, Software Systems is responsible for the successful delivery of software solutions as well as successful relationship management with specific business functions/domains. This position manages a technical team of project managers, business analysts and developers, as well as other matrixed resources, required to deliver a broad set of software development initiatives ranging from small software enhancements to major business projects. This position will be located in Columbus, OH.

Related Work Experience: 10+ years

  • Seven (7) years experience in an IT environment of equivalent size and complexity as NetJets
  • Four (4) years experience as manager leading, managing, supervising and directing the work of others
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including delegating, mentoring, and coaching
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver management reports with an aim toward improving operational efficiency and quality • Excellent speaking, writing, and presentation skills
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams
  • Possess strong planning, budgeting and financial analysis skills
  • Possess strong data collection design, data and statistical analysis, and data presentation skills
  • Experience facilitating meetings, including building consensus and mediating compromises when necessary
  • General Management/Leadership - Ability to act as a change agent and inspire others through conviction, vision, and the ability to formulate and articulate direction.
  • Judgment - Ability to identify critical information, even in unfamiliar situations and use it to select practical, effective courses of action; flexibility to deal with, and react to, change in a positive constructive manner.
  • Interpersonal Relations - Ability to influence direction with maintaining sensitivity to potentially divergent viewpoints and positions. Success in building teamwork through open and honest communication.

  • Experience with project/resource management tools, project financial tracking, risk management, and software development life cycle and project management life cycle processes and disciplines.
  • Experience managing large scale (enterprise level or multi-million $$) IT projects or large (20+ people) software development organizations.
  • Experience in 1 or more commercial or custom full life cycle SDLC and/or Project Management methodologies.
  • Experience developing cost/benefit analysis and understanding ROI as it relates to the financial justification of IT projects.
  • Experience writing project plans and developing project schedules.
  • Experience using MS Project or similar tools.
  • Experience producing project status reports for multiple audiences.
  • Experience in change, risk and scope management.
  • Experience in Business Intelligence, Mobile Technologies, Content/Document Management, or Portal Platforms is desired.

 

What does a Director, Software Systems do?

  • Develop and maintain a close business relationship with business functions/domains responsible for. Be intimately involved with business meetings, direction setting, goal setting, etc. in order to ensure business needs are being met.
  • Obtain project status, manage risks and issues, and mitigate and/or resolve as appropriate through cross team involvement, business involvement, or further escalation.
  • Direct the team on solutions and approaches, and reconcile priorities across Software Systems. Take appropriate actions within the team as priorities change.
  • Measure and communicate progress on current projects. Recommend course of action based on potential issues and risks that arise.
  • Process Improvement: ensure consistent improvement in software delivery practices, creating repeatable processes and metrics that mitigate business risk associated with software development.
  • Team Administration: team building through leadership and teamwork advocacy, mentoring, various approvals, budgeting, training, performance evaluation, etc.; develop New Solutions objectives in support of overall department objectives.
  • Innovation: establish broad view of business applications developed over time and identify and develop recommendations and business cases that enable the business to recognize strategic opportunities that exist as technology develops across the business areas and integration occurs.
