TechColumbus has the unique ability to serve the needs of both large and small organizations—and connect them to meet business needs and to advance technology.
DJW Technology, a small technology firm, has built an unmanned aerial vehicle called the Ion Tiger that is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. It set a new record of 23 hours of flight endurance. DJW Technology was the senior consultant and a contributor to the technology behind this remarkable fuel cell developed by the Naval Research Laboratory.
Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Technology
DJW Technology, founded in 2004 by Douglas Wheeler, is a fuel cell and hydrogen technology company focused on consulting, technology development, and cost/market analyses for some major players such as the Departments of Energy and Defense, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Naval Research Laboratory and the University of Hawaii.
DJW Technology consults with the Departments of Energy and Defense to evaluate a fuel cell manufacturer's abilities to fabricate fuel cell systems for such applications as material handling vehicles and backup power for telecommunication towers, and they evaluate the cost analyses processes of auto fuel cells. In addition, they serve as a technical assessment interface between industry and the government.
The Power of TechColumbus
While DJW Technology has a full time staff of one, Douglas Wheeler, Doug has a cadre of part-time expert consultants that he depends on as needed. TechColumbus has been an especially valuable resource as it helps Douglas connect with varied technological concerns throughout Ohio.
“TechColumbus is a good means of networking and identifying resources and partners around Ohio,” said Doug who believes that Ohio is loaded with good manufacturing and technologically skilled people. “You don’t have to go outside the state of Ohio to find the resources you need.”
Anticipating Growth
DJW Technology is currently in a state of transition; the organization is working with Professor Winston Ho of The Ohio State University to move into the manufacturing of a full size membrane hydrogen purifier for the Department of Defense.
Pending DOD approval, manufacture will be initiated in the Columbus area with possible testing at the NASA Plum Brook Station in northern Ohio. This exciting prospect could mean growth for DJW Technology to meet the market needs.
