Dublin Wins International Award for Teen Entrepreneurial Camp

September 22, 2011

The City of Dublin has been recognized by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) for Excellence in Economic Development in the category of Entrepreneurship  for communities with populations of 25,000 – 200,000.  The award was in recognition of The Dublin Apprentice: Teen Entrepreneurial Camp which was a collaboration among the Dublin Entrepreneurial Center and the City’s Economic Development and Recreation Services departments.

Over the course of three weeks, middle school students enrolled in the camp engaged with local government and businesses to gain valuable knowledge necessary to help prepare these young entrepreneurs for the future needs of the small business owner and workforce.  Through this innovative summer activity camp, teens gained real-world business experience and an opportunity to create new ventures.

The honor was presented at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, September 20, during the IEDC Annual Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina.

"We recognize the City of Dublin for providing successful strategies to promote new standards in economic development in this period of global recovery,” said Dennis Coleman, IEDC chair. “Our awards honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in communities. They demonstrate that they are at the forefront of the economic development profession and are using innovative and effective practices that can be replicated in other communities."
