Details for "Personalized Health Care National Conference"
Personalized health care is emerging as the single most-significant development in health care in the 21st century. It springs forth from the recent sequencing of the human genome, major technical advances that facilitate our ability to understand the uniqueness of each individual at the molecular level, and advances in the field of bioinformatics. Michael Leavitt, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), defines personalized health care as: “the basic scientific breakthroughs of the human genome with computer-age ability to exchange and manage data. Increasingly it will give us the ability to deliver the right treatment to the right patient at the right time - every time.”
The Ohio State University Center for Personalized Health Care invites you to participate in our inaugural national conference on Personalized Health Care, October 16-17, 2008. The discussions will focus on strategies and critical infrastructural developments needed to achieve success in translating scientific discoveries in personalized medicine to effective health care practices. The conference will bring together academic experts, industry leaders, government policy makers, and consumer advocates from around the nation to discuss the latest breakthroughs in personalized medicine research and the challenges of translating these findings into clinical practice.
The conference will serve as a national platform to discuss the emerging trends and latest developments of personalized health care research and patient care with the following themes:
- Translating science into personalized health care from an academic perspective. The discussion will be focus on the latest scientific breakthroughs toward clinical applications and the current practice in personalized medicine.
- The impact of personalized medicine on the biopharmaceutical and diagnostic industry and how it is changing the development of new drugs and diagnostic tools
- Opportunities and challenges of integrating personalized health care into clinical practice and creating a value-based, patient centric health care system
