Details for "TechColumbus Leaders Luncheon: Wondering How The Voting Process Works? Election Security - Uncovering the Vulnerabilities in E-Voting"

This presentation will cover the efforts by the Ohio Secretary of State and local security firm MicroSolved to identify potential threats to the electronic voting system and ensure that protections are in place to restore public faith in electronic polling. Last year, in the EVEREST project, the Ohio Secretary of State's office, MicroSolved and a team of academic and private researchers analyzed the voting system for flaws and worked hard to establish protections and detection mechanisms for the Ohio Electronic Voting System.

Terry Dick from the Ohio Secretary of State and Brent Huston from MicroSolved will discuss how e-voting works in Ohio, what the EVEREST project was, how it was conducted and the findings of their analysis. They will detail the extensive work that has been done by the EVEREST team to provide safer voting for all Ohio citizens.

Terry is the Assistant Chief Information Officer for the Ohio Secretary of State. He has worked over twenty one years for the office under four administrations. He has held several technical positions for the Secretary of State before becoming the Assistant CIO; including Developer, Systems Analyst, and Oracle Database Administrator.

Terry serves as Technical Advisor to the Board of Voting Machine Examiners and was a core team member of the EVEREST team who developed and executed the Voting Machine Risk Assessment.
Terry has a B.S.C.I.S. from the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University.
