EndoSphere Inc. has been awarded a patent from the US Patent and Trademark Office for the use of its endoscopically implantable device for the treatment of metabolic diseases, including obesity and type 2 diabetes. This noninvasive device is endoscopically implanted into a person’s intestine causing them to feel full sooner without nausea or other awareness of the product. The device can be endoscopically inserted, or easily removed, during a 15-minute outpatient procedure.
“EndoSphere’s inventions respond to the urgent need for a less invasive, safer and more physiologic treatment for the growing problem of obesity worldwide,” commented Kenneth Binmoeller, M.D., EndoSphere’s co-founder and the technology’s inventor.
“Treating obesity is the first target for our technology, the first of several major medical applications for which we plan to develop and commercialize products,” added James McKinley, EndoSphere CEO.
EndoSphere is a 2010 recipient of a TechGenesis grant from TechColumbus and a portfolio company of the Ohio TechAngel Funds.
