Due to our company’s growth, we are adding an Instrumentation Engineer II to our staff. This position is a Lead Engineer on design projects involving technology generally known to the company. This person will perform updates to existing designs on our scientific instruments; extension designs on current product lines; and may work on new product(s).
Our Successful Candidate Will:
- Have analog circuitry design experience with operational amplifiers (since digital needs are minimal for this position, digital design experience only does not qualify)
- Know how to select the right analog architecture after evaluating options such as input bias currents, input impedance, offset voltages, voltage noise, and current noise
- Have knowledge of 4-wire measurement techniques
- Know firmware
- Have in-depth knowledge of testing techniques
- Have some experience writing software to gather data for evaluating test results
- Know how to use an oscilloscope
- Have knowledge and understanding of a spectrum analyzer
- Be asked to analyze some op amp circuits in the interview Responsibilities:
- Plan and perform research, design, development, or manufacturing engineering
- Responsible for the engineering of part of a major project or as lead engineer on a smaller project.
- Coordinate the development of each assignment.
- Coordinate engineering personnel assigned to each activity.
- Coordinate the activities of the particular group with the various stages of the overall program.
- Verify design specifications
- Make decisions with some latitude for un-reviewed action.
- Provide technical support to internal and external customers.
- Work with and have functional knowledge of computer systems and engineering design tools, precision measuring devices, hand tools, associated electronic and scientific devices.
- Primarily interfaces with Engineering, New Product Development, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, and Suppliers.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area.
Experience Needed:
- Managing projects
- Analog and some digital design
- Work with current sources and instrumentation amplifiers
- Procedures followed and documented, records kept, like ISO 9001 or similar
- Verify and validate tests results to assure accuracy and meet specifications
- Have a system (check list) to verify all specs were met after tests were completed
- Knowledge of and experience with embedded firmware
- VB.net (Visual Basic) preferred or other high level, object oriented programming language
- Write test programs to gather data and evaluate instruments’ performance
- Embedded coding in Assembly is part of the job Supervision Received: General supervision from project manager, engineering management, or manufacturing management.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and/or legal documentation.
- Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, suppliers, agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors.
Mathematical Skills: Apply advanced mathematical concepts and operations to tasks.
Reasoning Ability: Make complex decisions requiring a significant amount of judgment. Decisions may affect product, process, employees, customers, suppliers, or any other business stakeholder. Assignments are broad in nature and require considerable originality or ingenuity.
Physical Demands: Position requires general office work (sitting, standing); manual dexterity needed for computer work with keyboard and mouse; requires walking, talking, seeing, hearing. Also requires assembly and testing of parts and products, using a variety of equipment.
Work Environment: May require some travel to supplier sites, trade shows, seminars, and customer sites.
