AEP Named One of the Top Utilities in Economic Development

Site Selection Magazine has named American Electric Power as one of the nation’s top utilities in economic development.  By providing enhanced efficiencies in energy consumption, utilities can play a critically important role in a location’s competitiveness for new industrial investments.

AEP was cited for enhancing he competitive standing of its 11-state territory.  The company invested $2.3 billion in its transmission system between 2001 and 2007.  It has led the initiative for establishing a nationwide transmission system and launched a $1 billion joint venture with Duke Energy to build a transmission infrastructure in Indiana.  AEP has also committed to increasing its renewable energy portfolio to 2600 MW by 2011.
