HyperTech Research Receives $3M Federal Grant to Advance Medical Imaging Project

The National Institute of Standards and Technology has awarded HyperTech Research Inc. a $3 million grant to continue work on the development of magnesium diboride wires.  These superconducting wires better conduct electrical current, which impacts the quality and performance of medical imaging systems such as MRIs.  HyperTech is looking to create an industrial-scale process for making these wires.  HyperTech is located next to the TechColumbus incubator, and has been the beneficiary of more than $6 million in support from the Ohio Third Frontier.  [Read More]

Startups and Entrepreneurs Vital for New Job Creation in US

In the midst of record unemployment, a new report from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation suggests the nation’s economic recovery lies with startup companies because they are the primary drivers of job generation in the US. The study, “Where Will the Jobs Come From?” shows that newer companies have historically created more jobs than their older counterparts, and the difference is particularly significant during economic recessions. The authors say this demonstrates that young businesses will be the key to economic recovery. [Read More]
