Kauffman Study Indicates High Growth Firms Account for Greatest Share of Jobs Creation
In a recent study, High Growth Firms and the Future of the American Economy, The Kauffman Foundation reports that in any given year, the top-performing one percent of firms generate roughly 40 percent of all new jobs – and of these “gazelle” firms (those ages three to five years) account for 10 percent of these new jobs. As a whole, the average firm in the US economy adds two or three new jobs each year. In comparison, the top one percent contributes 88 jobs per year and most of these gazelles end up with between 20 and 249 employees.

Gains in IT Hiring Projected in Q2
The quarterly hiring outlook recently published by Robert Half Technology finds that, while IT hiring remains modest, Ohio and nearby states are projecting a slightly more optimistic second quarter. Ten percent of CIOs surveyed in the region expect to hire workers between April and June, with only one percent of those surveyed saying they plan cutbacks during this timeframe. National Cancer Institute Awards OSU $1.25M to Study Colorectal Cancer
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) announced a $1.25 million grant to fund colorectal cancer research at The Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. The grant will fund a study that will look at how two particular genes (AURKA and PTPRJ) affect increased risks of developing colorectal cancer when they interact with certain other regions of DNA in mice.
