TechColumbus to Host Ohio Third Frontier Informational Session

The Ohio Department of Development’s Technology and Innovation Division will conduct an informational meeting regarding Ohio Third Frontier funding opportunities for FY 2010.  The presentation is scheduled for Friday, July 10, 2009 from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at TechColumbus, 1275 Kinnear Road.  Representatives from ODOD will answer questions and outline programs, funding amounts and the schedule for release of Request for Proposals. TechColumbus Incubator Ranked Top-10 in the Nation

The June issue of Entrepreneur’s Startups magazine included a “Round Up of Business Incubators.”  The story ranked the TechColumbus incubator as one of the nation’s Top-10 business incubators.  The magazine cited TechColumbus’ incubator with infusing $4.3 million into 32 companies in 2008 and helping attract a 10 percent increase in VC funding for its companies last year. Smart Grid Seen as the Future of Energy - Upcoming Event to Highlight Local Advances in Smart Grid Technology

The Department of Energy announced Monday it plans to release $3.3 billion in federal stimulus grants of up to $200 million each to companies and utilities for the development of a smarter, faster power grid.  A Smart Grid is an automated network capable of measuring amounts and peak times of a homeowner’s or business’ actual electricity consumption; detecting outages; and storing power during off-peak hours for use during times of higher demand. Central Ohio Advanced Materials Researchers Develop Bio-Based Alternatives to Plastic

In continuing efforts to find alternatives for petroleum-based products, a team from Battelle’s Advanced Materials Group has announced advancements in the development of bio-plastic packaging made from corn.  Although the idea of using corn as an alternative for oil-based polymers in plastics is not new (Battelle has held patents in this process since the late 90s), end-users were not satisfied with the costs or the characteristics of these early “green” products.  [Read More]

Navigator Management Partners Gains Recognition for its Growth and for Being One of the Companies to Work For in America

Columbus-based Navigator Management Partners has been recognized by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Great Places to Work Institute (GPTW) as one of the top companies in the nation for using “best practices” in people management strategies.   Citing that small and medium-sized companies make up the majority of the American economy and workforce, SHRM/GPTW recognized the top 25 small and top 25 medium companies to work for. ODOD Announces Job Creation Tax Credits

The Ohio Department of Development recently approved Job Creation Tax Credits for 16 businesses, including one for Central Ohio startup, CallCopy.  The Job Creation Tax Credit is to encourage the creation and retention of jobs within the state.  As a result of the award, CallCopy is expected to retain 21 jobs in Central Ohio and create 50 new positions.  Call Copy was founded in 2004 as a provider of innovative performance management solutions in large call centers. Hyper Tech Research, Inc has been selected for $5 million in funding from the State of Ohio Third Frontier Research & Commercialization Program.

Columbus, Ohio, July 2, 2009– Hyper Tech Research, Inc. (Hyper Tech) has been selected for $5 million in funding from the State of Ohio Third Frontier Research & Commercialization Program. The industrial cost share for this project is over $5 million bringing total for the entire project to over $10 million.
