EXCMR Secures $2.8M in Grants and Cost Share Matches

July 16, 2010

Columbus, Ohio – EXCMR, Ltd. was recently awarded $1,424,694 by the Ohio Third Frontier Medical Imaging Program (TFMIP) for its In-State Multi-Center Evaluation of Treadmill Exercise Stress Cardiac Magnetic Resonance project. The funding was matched by collaborative cost share partners and will support clinical testing and refinement of technology for improving cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging under stress conditions.

EXCMR’s core technology is based on a non-ferromagnetic treadmill and cardiac data collection system which enables placement of the patient immediately adjacent to an MRI machine.  The system enables image acquisition immediately post-exercise, meeting American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines for exercise induced cardiac stress testing and providing more accurate cardiac imaging results than those achieved through drug induced testing.

EXCMR’s advanced hydraulic treadmill – without an electric motor and steel parts which interfere with the MRI – will be tested in clinical settings.  EXCMR is working in collaboration with the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals Case Medical Center, Christ Hospital, The Ohio State University, along with several industry partners.

“We are very pleased to be receiving this competitive funding,” commented Lon Simonetti, PhD, chief executive officer of EXCMR.  “The TFMIP funding is matched by the collaborators for a total of $2.8 million in project scope. With this funding EXCMR will be able to accelerate its product development and clinical evaluation, moving the company closer to commercial launch.”

“EXCMR is working with the clinical leaders in cardiovascular imaging, research and innovation – so much of this expertise is right here in the state of Ohio,” stated  Subha Raman, MD, co-founder and chief medical officer.  “We will collect significant clinical data with these partners and harness this information to expand clinical applications while further enhancing the technology design.”
