Health Care Data Works has released the Meaningful Use Dashboard, a system that provides a single location for health care organizations to monitor their performance with regard to new federal standards governing health information technology (health IT). In December 2009, the Department of Health and Human Services issued an Interim Final Rule which outlines Meaningful Use Criteria as related to electronic health records (EHR). Stage 1 criteria, which goes into effect in 2011, covers 25 objectives/measures that health systems are encouraged to meet in order to be eligible for incentive-based reimbursements from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
HCDW’s newly launched dashboard allows health systems, no matter the source system, number of facilities, departments or users, to view from a single location, and at a glance, how they are performing in regards to these Meaningful Use Indicators. Examples of the Meaningful Use Indicators include a system’s compliance in recording patient demographics, its ability to record and chart changes in vital signs, maintain active medication allergy lists, generate and transmit permissible prescriptions electronically, etc. The Meaningful Use Dashboard provides health systems with a high level summary view of these metrics, as well as drill down capability to diagnose what is happening across the organization. The dashboard is designed to monitor performance of these key metrics over time and provide for action to improve quality of care.
HCDW is a technology company created to commercialize the Enterprise Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence capabilities created at the OSU Medical Center.
