Internet and Wireless Revolutionize Telephone Directory Assistance

February 13, 2009

Hang on to your last phone book; someday you may be able to sell it on Ebay.  The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has approved a request from AT&T to eliminate the automatic delivery of the residential white pages phone directory.  Instead, residential numbers will be published in an Online directory at www.realpageslive.com .   AT&T says that a technological shift has made the telephone book obsolete as more and more customers turn to the Internet.  In addition AT&T estimates that six out of every ten phones are wireless and therefore not listed in their directories anyway.

AT&T says it still intends to publish the business white pages and the yellow pages directory.  Those wishing to still receive the residential white pages may request delivery of it.
