Israeli Biomedical Firm Establishes US Base of Operations in Central Ohio

February 19, 2010

Sensible Medical Innovations, an Israeli-based developer of a nonsurgical device to diagnose and monitor congestive heart failure, has selected Columbus as its US base of operations. Currently there is no noninvasive procedure for detecting congestive heart failure.  Sensible Medical has developed an imaging device that combines medical and information technology to examine internal organs.  The device could potentially replace exploratory surgery as the method of diagnosing congestive heart failure.  The device has already been successful on animals and now Sensible is looking to begin human clinical trials which will lead to its approval in the US by the FDA.

In May 2009, Sensible Medical was one of three Israeli heart companies awarded a combined $1 million from the Global Cardiovascular Innovation Center (GCIC), which was started in late 2006 with a $60 million grant from the Ohio Third Frontier.  Two venture capital firms supplied an additional $7 million investment in the biomedical company.

Sensible Medical chose Columbus for its first US office to work primarily with Dr. William Abraham, OSU’S director of Cardiovascular Medicine.  For more on Sensible Medical Innovations, see the story in MedCity News
