In its IT Hiring Index and Skills Report for first quarter 2010, Robert Half Technology projects short-term gains in IT hiring. The report shows seven percent of technology executives say they anticipate adding IT workers in the first quarter. This compared to 89 percent who say they will maintain current staffing levels, while four percent say they plan workforce reductions in the new year.
“After months of slow hiring activity, managers are beginning the year with new budgets and appear ready to carefully expand their IT departments,” says Dave Wilmer, executive director of Robert Half Technology. “Many firms are investing in technologies that improve efficiency and competitiveness, and there has been demand for additional professionals to implement these projects. The health services sector, for instance, needs IT talent to manage the conversion to electronic medical records.”
Technology executives report they have most difficulty in finding skilled professionals in networking, security and application development.
