Lanx, Inc. to Launch Innovative Biomedical Company in Central Ohio

July 16, 2010

Colorado-based biomedical company Lanx, Inc. has chosen Columbus as the location to launch its Lumbar Motion Monitor Commercialization project.  Founded in 2003, Lanx specializes in devices and systems for all segments of spinal surgery and is one of the fastest growing spinal implant companies in the US.

Lanx is collaborating with The Ohio State University Biodynamics Laboratory, Columbus-based OrthoNuero and the Cleveland Clinic Center for Spine Health on developing a device to measure range of lumbar motion in patients with back injuries.  The device will provide physicians with more detailed information to more accurately diagnose the extent of injuries thus leading to more effective treatments.

The company selected Central Ohio in order to be close to its collaborators and also because of the region’s growing strength in biomedical commercialization.

"Ohio is an attractive location for the Lanx Diagnostic division because of its existing strengths in the biomedical industry and resources such as Ohio Third Frontier and TechColumbus," said Stuart Born, director, Lanx Diagnostic. "These benefits coupled with the close proximity to our collaborators, allow us to further develop an important innovative new tool that will essentially help surgeons and other clinicians further optimize patient care."
