Forty percent of the energy cost to run a typical data center is for cooling. So how can responsible centers reduce costs and their carbon footprint? One solution: total liquid submersion blade systems. This server platform consists of a low-cost blade server chassis that’s filled with a proprietary dielectric liquid, into which dual-socket server blades are submerged. The system cools the internal gear by pumping the nontoxic and nonconductive fluid over active server components, requiring no fans for cooling. Platform Lab’s Steve Greutter recently tested such a system provide by Hardcore Computer. His review of the innovative technology was featured in InformationWeek.
