Local Firms Awarded $3M from Department of Energy

The US Department of Energy (DOE) announced this week the awarding of $3 million in grants to local companies through the Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) program.  Three companies received $1 million each to advance their commercialization efforts.  Central Ohio companies receiving awards include:

  • Global Research and Development, Inc. to further develop a superconductor wire for next generation high energy physics accelerator magnets. 
  • Hyper Tech Research Inc. for two projects involving superconductor wire and to develop an affordable, high-quality magnesium diboride superconductor for next generation high energy physics accelerator magnets and components.
  • NexTech Materials, Ltd, to develop new manufacturing techniques for coating metals in order to lower the cost and improve the durability of solid oxide fuel cells that can provide for more efficient use of fossil fuels and bio-fuels with less pollution.
