Making Dollars and Sense of Incentives: Jobs, Myths and Money

Hosted by TechColumbus and sponsored by the City of Columbus Department of Development, Steve Schoeny with the SZD Whiteboard will provide a free seminar that will help participants make sense of incentives.

“Incentives are just for big companies.” 
“I cannot get money in the private sector, but I should be able to get grants from the government.” 
“You need connections to get incentives.”
 
This breakfast session will debunk these myths and explain how businesses can understand government programs in the same way that they understand private sector financing. 

You will learn:

• What kinds of projects qualify for job creation incentives.
• How job creation incentives differ from technology incentives.
• How to think about incentives just like any other business deal, but different.
• What’s available and how to get it.

The target audience for this event are the CEOs, CFOs, HR Directors and advisors to growing businesses and technology companies.
 

Presenter background:

Steve Schoeny is the leader of SZD Whiteboard’s economic development practice.  Steve works with a wide variety of clients, from large multi-national firms to small privately held technology companies.  Prior to joining SZD Whiteboard, Steve directed the State of Ohio’s job creation incentive programs, overseeing approximately $1 billion in economic development programs.
