According to a recently released report from BioEnterprise, 178 healthcare startups in the Midwest raised $810 million in venture capital last year. This represents a 10 percent increase over 2010.
Investments in healthcare startups in Central Ohio in 2011 were nearly five times greater than in 2010 with 19 companies receiving $15.1 million in investments (compared to 3 companies reporting $3.1 million in 2010).
While medical devices continue to represent the Midwest's strongest sector, investors have shown an unusually high level of investment interest in healthcare IT opportunities as well.
