National Group Points to Ohio State for Best Medical Care

December 4, 2009

The Ohio State University Hospital and the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute at Ohio State University are among the safest and most effective hospitals in the country, according to the Leapfrog Group, a national quality improvement organization

Leapfrog Group, a voluntary program aimed at mobilizing employer purchasing power to alert America’s health industry that big leaps in health care safety, quality and customer value will be recognized and rewarded, is a very important quality initiative for the University and Ohio State University Medical Center, according to Dr. Steven Gabbe, CEO of the Medical Center.

“Hospitals involved in the Leapfrog project are challenging themselves to achieve higher standards for the safe and efficient delivery of medical care,” said Gabbe. “It’s rewarding to know the work we’re doing here at Ohio State is impacting the quality and cost of medical care to consumers and businesses around the country.”
Members of the Leapfrog Group, including companies such as General Motors, FedEx and Boeing, represent more than 34 million Americans and more than $62 billion in healthcare expenditures. No other Ohio hospitals were included on the Leapfrog list.

Earlier this year, OSU Medical Center was named one of the nation’s 21 “Honor Roll Hospitals” by U.S News & World Report magazine for exceeding levels of excellence in several areas of patient care.
