Nationwide Children’s Hospital Selected for National Neonatal Research Network

April 14, 2011

Nationwide Children’s Hospital has been accepted to join an elite group of research centers dedicated to studying neonatal medicine. The Neonatal Research Network, developed by the National Institute of Child Health and Development (NICHD), is comprised of 18 research centers focused around one cause: to improve the care and outcome of neonates.

Led by Leif Nelin, MD, principal investigator and interim division chief of neonatology, at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and director of the Center for Perinatal Research, of The Research Institute, this network was formed to help conduct multi-center clinical trials and observational studies in neonatal medicine.

“We are extremely excited to become a part of this national network of investigators leading the way in neonatal medicine,” said Nelin, also a professor of pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

The Center for Perinatal Research of The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital is the eighteenth center to join this prestigious network. The network accepts applications from centers every five years in  a highly competitive screening process.

As part of joining the network, Nationwide Children’s will receive approximately $400,000 a year for research.
