Nationwide Mutual Insurance Launches Innovative Mobile Apps in 2009

December 30, 2009

In 2009, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. ventured into the world of mobile applications and earned recognition as one of the “coolest brands” in mobile apps.  Earlier this year, Nationwide launched an accident toolkit application called Nationwide Mobile. The application, which was the first of its kind, lets customers file claims from an accident scene (including pictures taken with their iPhone).  It allows customers to call emergency services, locate Nationwide agents near the scene of the accident, connect with towing services and even convert their iPhone into a flashlight.  The application was included in AdAge’s Book of Tens as one of the “Cool Branded iPhone Apps for 2009.”  It has been downloaded more than 82,000 times, and to date, 248 insurance claims have been initiated through the application.

This week, the company launched its second mobile application of the year.  Cartopia is free for iPhone and iPod Touch users considering the purchase of a new or used vehicle.  It provides comparison data, such as safety ratings, pricing, trade-in values, loan rates and insurance quotes from Nationwide.
