New Award to Recognize Achievements in Commercializing Scientific Discoveries

August 13, 2009

Nominations have been opened for the Kauffman Foundation Outstanding Postdoctoral Entrepreneur Award.  This is the first year for the award which will recognize and celebrate scientific researchers who have successfully commercialized their discoveries through entrepreneurship.  Nominees must have completed postdoctoral research in the U.S. and founded companies to commercialize their intellectual property.  The award recipient will receive a $10,000 honorarium.

Nominees will be asked to tell the story of their journeys from postdoctoral research to successful business leadership and to share the impact their research has had on society and the economy as they have brought their scientific discoveries to market.

A second award, the Emerging Postdoctoral Entrepreneur Award, is open to postdoctoral researchers in the U.S. who are actively seeking commercialization opportunities for their research.  This award will come with a $2500 honorarium.

The awards are being presented by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and the National Postdoctoral Association.  Deadline for nominations is November 2, 2009.  The award will be presented in March of 2010.
