Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman has announced the launch of a new economic development Web site aimed at attracting new businesses and jobs to the Central Ohio region. The site was created to make searches easier for site selectors and highlights many of Columbus’ strengths including the city’s ease of access to the rest of the nation, its strong education institutions, major employers and national rankings such as the Forbes ranking as the #1 Up and Coming Tech City. In a statement Columbus Councilmember Andrew J. Ginther said “Columbus is uniquely positioned geographically to meet the needs of businesses and with some 20,000 students graduating annually from our 18 institutions of higher learning, we can provide a talented, eager workforce to help companies succeed.”
Technology along with logistics is cited as one of the city’s growth clusters.
The new site can be accessed by clicking: http://econdev.columbus.gov/
In a related story, the State of Ohio announced it has launched a new site to make it easier for companies looking to expand or start up in Ohio to search for available properties by plugging in requirements such as square footage, ceiling height, maximum price or proximity to Interstate, airport and rail service. The site analyzes these requirements and returns a list of available properties across the state that meet the needs of the business. The site uses property information fed to it by regional chambers of commerce as well as GIS technology and satellite imagery to generate the list.
The site is called Ohio InSite and can be found at: www.ohioinsite.com and www.ohiomeansbusiness.com
