The National Institutes of Health has awarded OSU funding to support two major construction projects that will support the university’s cancer research programs. An $8 million grant will go towards completion of the unfinished fourth floor of the OSU Medical Center’s Biomedical Research Tower. Another $3.9 million will fund the renovation of the Goss Lab in the department of Veterinary Biosciences.
The Biomedical Research Tower opened its doors in December 2006 with about 60 faculty scientists and their teams occupying the first phase of the tower. Eventually the facility will house a total of 800 researchers specializing in cancer and cancer genetics, as well as other specialties. The laboratory facility being funded through this grant will support medical chemists as they design effective new cancer therapies and will support the recruitment of new faculty in oncology to the university.
More than 8,000 square feet on the second floor of Goss Lab will be renovated as a result of the grant. This renovation will convert unusable space into four new laboratories and office support space.
The NIH awards were made possible through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
