In its annual business climate rankings, Site Selection magazine has named Ohio fourth in the nation based on new plant construction data and survey results from site selectors. The state, which leads the Midwest, is up from seventh place in 2008. The rankings are determined partially by performance in Conway Data’s New Plant Database, which tracks new and expanded facility activity, and a national survey of corporate site selectors.
According to the survey, the factors that most influence site selectors are a state’s transportation infrastructure and access, existing workforce skills and the state and local tax schemes. For the executive survey portion, Ohio jumped from 17th place in 2008 to 8th in 2009.
Earlier in the year, Site Selection awarded Ohio the Governor’s Cup for the third consecutive year in recognition of the state with the most new or expanded capital projects as tracked by the magazine’s publisher, Conway Data, Inc. In total Ohio has won the Governor’s Cup seven times.
North Carolina, Texas and Virginia, placed in the top three spots respectively.
