The Ohio Department of Development Technology & Innovation Division was awarded an Excellence in Economic Development Award Monday by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC)for its programs to advance technology based economic development in communities with populations greater than 500,000.
Meeting in Columbus for its annual convention, the IEDC brought together more than 1300 economic development professionals from around the globe, many of whom came to Central Ohio to learn more about the state’s strategies for advancing technology based economies.
IEDC recognized The Ohio Third Frontier for funding emerging technologies in Ohio that can, through a competitive process, demonstrate a reasonable likelihood of leading to innovative products, new businesses, leveraged investments and new jobs. The Third Frontier has been described by state officials and media outlets as “Ohio’s most successful economic development program.”
“We recognize the Ohio Department of Development Technology & Innovation Division for providing successful strategies to promote new paradigms in economic development in this period of global recovery,” said William Best, IEDC chair. “Our awards honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in communities. The Ohio Department of Development Technology & Innovation Division is showing that they are at the forefront of the economic development profession and are using innovative and effective practices that can be replicated in other communities."
